With more hunts planned a growing interest in making hunts I wrote this as a how to construct a post for a hunt, not how to make a hunt. It easy to make a post and to forget something in it, just use this as a checklist so you don't forget something important. This is a basic template that will answer all of the important questions about your hunt for your hunters. Maybe we can get a sticky for it

Name of Hunt
Mob and Maturities to be hunted
Date time and duration of Hunt
Location of Hunt
Weapons used in Hunt
Use of amps, enhancers, scopes, sights, rings (allowed or disallowed)
Description of the hunt

Name: You want something catchy and fun. The best names are descriptive of what the hunt will be. You do not want to be misleading with the Name. ie... “End of year Newbie hunt” would not be a good time to go and hunt Osseocollum Entropedia: Creature: Osseocollum.

Mob and Maturities: This simply answers all the questions of what are you hunting?, The higher or lower mobs? It should avoid the questions of can we hunt XYZ mobs.

Date time and duration of hunt: 3 of the most common questions you will get. It is better to answer them up front on the first post, than during the next 2 weeks till your hunt starts.

Location of hunt: The first thing a player will want to know is what planet, so they can decide if they will be on that planet that day. Again, better to answer up front rather then all day for next 2 weeks.

Weapons used in Hunt: You want to define this as short and concisely as you can. Ex TT hunt, Opallo hunt, 15-25DPS, Open hunt bring what you can afford . . . The better you define it the less questions you will get about it.

Use of amps...: When you focus a hunt for newbies it is very important to keep all players even, so no unfair advantages. Your average just started player will not have an Omegatron A101, at todays price of 180-220 ped apiece. So No amps, enhancers, scopes, sights, or rings. The advantage of faster reload from a ring is a clear advantage to more DPS and therefor larger share of loot. As levels go up this can be considered less important depending on the balance you want in your hunt. Many level 50 hunters have rings and would like to use them.

Description of Hunt: The general description that you always find. It is better to have the above items clearly defined, even if they are repeated here. A clean easy to read date, time and location will make a better post.

Define your hunt accurately, do not mislead your hunters. It will only lead to many questions for you. Pick what type of hunt you want and stick to it. Do not let players change your hunt to what they want, they are more than welcome to make their own hunt.
Basic Hunts:
TT Hunt: Use any weapon that you can buy today from a trade terminal. Can I use the Herman ASI-R ? NO! A TT hunt is for low level, and at nearly 1.5 times the range higher DPS and faster rate of fire you will average 5 or 6 shots to the other player who will average 1 or 2 from the real TT pistol. This is not good for training new players how to hunt, use group dynamics, or make them feel a welcome part of an event by having someone take a greater part of the Loot. If you must use other than TT weapon, you should be in another hunt, this one is clearly not for you.

Specific weapon hunt: the Opallo WAS a TT weapon, but is no longer sold at a trade terminal. Many Opallo hunts are setup and run because players like to use them. They are great hunts. This defines exactly what weapon you use, and leaves no room for questions. Others of this type are the Herman Ark-0, Ozpyn Chon S1X1, or any other specific weapon of choice.

DPS Hunt: Define a range of DPS and hunters bring and use any weapon in that range. Ex 10-20 DPS, 30+DPS, Under 7DPS. If defined any weapon that fits will be allowed, pending other rules defined.
More advanced hunts:

split groups for competition: multiple groups of equal numbers compete for fame or prizes. Could be different mobs on different planets, of equal difficulty, or same mob in same area. Groups could be general, or cover a complex range of levels required for each team. These are harder to setup and manage but provide a greater sense of competition.

Style of Hunts:

Newbie hunts: TT hunts are great for these. Your focus here is to teach newbies how to hunt, or group hunt. It is part of training new players to be able to play the game. You want to create an as fair of an environment as you can for all team members. This means no guns that cost 125 ped, or give double range, or DPS, use of enhancers, scops&sites, or rings. Keep is as simple as possible, all the same TT weapon. It is hard to keep balanced a rifle vs a sword. The sword won't get in any hits at range, or will do more damage in close. Just simple do a pistol hunt one day, sword hunt the next.

Low level hunts: Here hunters know the basics, but still keep it even field for the hunters, work on iron missions, and just good clean fun hunts.

Higher level hunts: they know the basics, your main goal here is just fun and creativity. Try different things. Hunts with different weapons, mobs, but just make it fun.

Very good write up Stronghorse. Often times you will have some individuals wanting to change the world to suit their small self inflicted microcosms. Set the rules and STICK with them, don't change every time someone whines about this or that.

One item you mentioned, low level hunts, work on iron missions. I thought credit for a kill for a mission only went to the person who did most damage? This has a potential to cause issues as only one person gets kill credit. It WILL teach discipline / sharing etc if you can get everyone on board with 'let someone else get credit this time' and not just hammer time and see who skeezes the point.

Either way, the key thing that many tend to forget is, It's to have FUN. Sometimes people get so wrapped up in Ped / ECO / I want MY share!! / that they forget to have fun.

oh, and if you have a healer, don't forget to tip them too if your group gets a nice global / hof :)

Thanks for the input Sluggo. You are correct, and the idea although not so emphasized was low level for training. A well trained team will be working together or they are not really a team. Very good point about the kill point, needs to be considered too. Yes, tip your healer, if they get hungry they bite lol
